Woman dead after being hit by dump truck in Toronto

Toronto police say a woman who was on a walker has died after she was struck by a dump truck on Monday.

Police said the collision happened at Davisville Avenue and Mount Pleasant Road at around 10:40 a.m.

Insp. Jeff Bangild told reporters there were reports an elderly woman was on a walker when she was struck by a dump truck making a turn. Police initially said she was on a mobility scooter but later said she was on a walker.

Paramedics told Global News a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bangild said according to initial reports from the investigation, the woman was crossing with the assistance of a walker during a green traffic signal and within the crosswalk.

Her identity has not yet been released as officers are still confirming who she is and notifying next of kin, Bangild said.

The driver of the dump truck remained on scene, Bangild said. He added no charges have yet been laid pending the outcome of the investigation.
