Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit, said the incident began when a York Regional Police officer saw a teenager “behaving suspiciously” in the parking lot of the Vaughan-based theme park.

When the police officer got out of their vehicle, the teenager fled and the officer chased them on foot, the watchdog said.

The teenager ran toward Jane Street and was reportedly hit by a vehicle.

Earlier, York Regional Police said a male pedestrian was taken to a regional trauma centre and later confirmed that his injuries were life-threatening.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene; and part of Jane Street was closed on Friday night.
