WATCH: A Toronto police officer remains in critical condition after a high-impact crash Saturday.
TORONTO – A veteran Toronto police officer sustained life-threatening injuries following an “on-duty motor vehicle collision” Saturday afternoon.
The head of the Toronto Police Association, Mike McCormack, says the officer, Const. John Zivcic is a “well-respected, hard-working police officer.”
McCormack says Zivcic is a seven-year veteran of the force.
Toronto Fire says that the accident occurred in the Bloor Street West — Neilson Drive area at 3:57 p.m.
Zivcic was ejected from his vehicle during the incident and was rushed to St. Michael’s Hospital.
Deputy Police Chief Peter Sloly says the officer has undergone a series of operations but won’t provide specific details about his injuries.
Sloly says the driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.
