Curtains, a musical comedy whodunnit!

APPLAUSE! Musicals in Concert presents a musical comedy whodunnit, with music and lyrics by the famed team Kander & Ebb who also wrote Chicago and Cabaret! This forgotten musical will run at the Arts Umbrella on Granville Island (formerly Emily Carr School), October 13 (8PM), 14 (2PM & 8PM), 15 (2PM). Curtains is a parody of musicals and murder mysteries that follows the story of an on-stage murder being investigated by a detective who (of course) falls in love with its leading lady. Stuck on stage in the theatre after members of the cast and crew start disappearing, the show’s cast tries to figure out “whodunit” while continuing to rehearse for their Broadway premiere. Curtains is APPLAUSE! Musicals Society’s 49th musical in concert. Unique to their work is a one-week rehearsal period, followed by a “in-concert” presentation of the entire script/score performed with scripts in hand and just enough staging & lighting to help tell the story. APPLAUSE! remains the only company in Canada dedicated to presenting rare, shelved and forgotten musical by popular musical theatre composers.
