The 2nd annual We Belong Market, an empowering event created by Margaux and Becky Wosk, siblings who are passionate advocates and activists for the disabled and neurodivergent communities. Margaux, an autistic and neurodivergent small business owner herself, has been a driving force behind this market, which aims to serve and celebrate the communities they are part of. We Belong Market showcases over 20 talented disabled and neurodivergent artists and makers. These vendors will be offering a diverse range of products, including soap, jewelry, and art prints, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Beyond providing a platform for these talented artists, the market is also a powerful demonstration of the self-sufficiency and capabilities of disabled and neurodivergent individuals in unconventional forms of employment. The event seeks to challenge societal stigmas and preconceptions about what disabled people can achieve, inspiring attendees to recognize the untapped potential and creativity within these communities. We Belong Market has intentionally created a low barrier to entry, making it accessible for artists to participate and share their work. By supporting these artists and celebrating their unique talents, the market strives to break down barriers and dispel stereotypes surrounding disability and neurodivergence. The market takes place on Saturday August 26th from 11am-4pm at Marpole Neighborhood House (8585 Hudson Street), a fully accessible venue that ensures everyone can participate and enjoy the experience. Admission to the market is free, encouraging a diverse and inclusive audience to come together and celebrate the abilities and creativity of disabled and neurodivergent individuals. Join us at We Belong Market 2023 to witness the incredible artworks and crafts from these exceptional artists, while fostering a community that embraces diversity and promotes self-sufficiency. Together, we can reduce stigma and build a more inclusive and understanding society.
