“A Time for Every Season” with the First Presbyterian Choir and The King’s University Chamber Choir join forces to sing J.S. Bach’s Cantata No. 106: “God’s Time is the Very Best Time”. Performed with 18th Century Baroque instruments: Josephine van Lier and Sarah Poon playing Viola da gambas and Dorothy Byer and Lori Klingbeil playing Recorders. This cantata is a multi-movement work with choral, instrumental, and solo sections that contrast some of Bach’s most profound music in times of loss with effervescent music brimming with hope and joy. Conceived as a concert remembering and celebrating friends and family we lost during the pandemic, we recognize the suffering of those who lose their lives and countries in current times of war and strife. Uplifting choral music and solos fill out this inspiring program. As First Presbyterian Church awaits the imminent arrival of an extended family of up to thirty-eight refugees from the Congo, this concert is a fundraiser for providing new homes in Edmonton for the families. All ticket sales from the concert will go towards this project.
