Nisga’a Ts’amiks Vancouver Society (NTVS) will be hosting an event on Friday, September 30, 2022 at Trout Lake, starting at 1:00 pm to honour the lost children and survivors from the Indian Residential School system for Truth and Reconciliation Day.

“The Orange T-Shirt Event is a day for Ts’amiks to come together, share their stories, stand in solitude and honour our survivors and all the families affected by the residential school system.’ says Nisga’a Ts’amiks Vancouver Society, President, Andrea Burrell. “Our goal is to bring our community together and use September 30, 2022, as a day to heal through drumming and singing.”

Nisga’a Ts’amik Vancouver Society hosted its first annual Orange T-Shirt Event at Trout Lake in 2021, which saw over 750 attendees, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, come together and stand in solidarity. Like last year’s event, Nisga’a Ts’amiks Vancouver Society will be selling custom orange t-shirts designed by Ts’amiks member, Sam McKay at Trout Lake for $20.00. All proceeds will be allocated towards programs and services for Ts’amiks Elders.

“We had such a great turn out last year and are preparing for the same number of attendees, if not more this year. We love to see members in the Vancouver community come out and show support for a day that represents a lot of hurt and pain for Indigenous people across Canada. We hope to encourage healing within our community and honour the children who didn’t make it home.” says Andrea Burrell.
