Telemark Nordic Club is a West Kelowna not-for-profit society situated on Glenrosa Road approximately 9km above Gorman’s Mill. The Biathlon BC Cup Championships weekend will take place at Telemark on the 2 and 3 March weekend. It is the fifth installment in the annual series of provincial sanctioned race involving competitors from across BC and Washington State. Athletes competing are from 9 years of age to 50+. Biathlon is a Winter sport combining cross country skiing with rifle marksmanship. The standard rifle and range are the .22 cal rifle using Long Rifle standard velocity ammunition and a certified 50 metre range with reactive targets to show hits/misses. The race formats this year will be: a. Saturday. Sprint competition in which each competitor skis the race course three times with two shooting bouts interspersed. Racers begin with skiing the course and end with skiing the course. Penalty loops are imposed for missed targets – the racer skies one penalty loop per miss following each shooting bout. b. Sunday. Pursuit competition is a natural follow on to the Sprint. For the pursuit, an interval start is also used, however, the order of start is in the order of the Sprint finish. Depending on their race category, competitors shoot either 3 or 4 times and ski the course 4 or 5 times. Penalty loops are also imposed for this race. We also need plenty of volunteers to pull off an event of this size. Please consider being a volunteer – you’ll get up close to the action, we have some swag for you and a hot meal!
