From identifying galaxies to fighting bacteria, and everything in between, crowdsourcing has proven to be an incredibly effective way to getting citizens involved in research. In this FREE public lecture, researcher and community organizer Shannon Dosemagen will discuss the powerful potential of citizen science for research, community building, and our shared future. This talk is part of “Making Knowledge Public”, a six-part lecture series dedicated to understanding the changing role of research in society. It will be held at SFU Burnaby’s Presentation Studio (ASB 10900) and will be followed by a free reception. ABOUT THE SPEAKER Shannon is Executive Director of the Public Lab. With over fifteen years of experience in community organizing and education, Shannon has worked with environment and public health groups addressing declining freshwater resources, coastal land loss and building participatory monitoring programs with communities neighbouring industrial facilities and impacted by the BP oil spill.
