Stephansson House Provincial Historic Site is hosting its 15th annual Poetry at Stephan’s House, on Sunday, July 15 from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. This year’s theme is “Family.” Born in Iceland, Stephan G. Stephansson and his family settled in the Markerville area in 1889. Widely regarded as the greatest Icelandic poet since the Middle Ages, Stephan G. Stephansson is best known for Andvokur, or “Wakeful Nights,” a 6-volume set of poetry. Visitors and participants will enjoy the Icelandic tradition of writing poetry at a social event. There will be poetry readings by a number of local and area poets, and a musical performance. Guests will collaborate on an illustrated saga with other attendees, as well as experiment with magnetic poetry, enjoy baked goods and beverages, and visit the historic house restored to its 1927 appearance. Regular admission rates apply. For more information please call 403.728.3929 or email us at Stephansson.House@gov.ab.ca.
