July 26 – 29, 2018 at Prince’s Island Park, get ready to look sharp at the 39th annual Calgary Folk Music Festival. Uncover many sonic layers with your favourite – and soon to be favourite – original, groundbreaking icons and upstart songwriters and instrumentalists.
71 artists from 13 countries, 7 Canadian provinces and 8 indigenous nations perform on seven stages around the Island.
On Thursday night, hear the soulful gospel sounds of The War and Treaty, acoustic harmonic duo-turned-band The Milk Carton Kids, British troubadour Passenger and indie pop quartet Alvvays.
Friday night, celebrate Joe Jackson’s diverse, iconic 40+ year career plus enjoy Australian Aboriginal icon Archie Roach, the seductive pop of Rhye, and the eloquent indie sounds of Stars.
Saturday night opens with 2018 World Music Juno Award-winners Kobo Town, psychedelic dub ensemble African Head Charge, the broken-hearted country rock of Lee Ann Womack, Calgary heroes Reuben and the Dark’s introspective, anthemic sounds and closes with A Tribe Called Red’s electric powwow.
Sunday night’s festivities include Shovels and Rope with their signature roots/punk/country creations, alt-country/indie-rock crooner Neko Case and deft guitarist and cool-breeze melodist Bahamas.
That’s just a taste of the genre-crushing music could become your summer soundtrack. See the full lineup here!
