Lacrimosa

Mount Royal’s youth choir, Artio, explores a difficult, but all too common theme that the catalyst for change comes as a result of the suffering and death of one individual. Someone whose sacrifice compels and sparks the flames of large scale societal change. “Lacrimosa” draws upon the Matthew Shepard story, a brutal anti-gay hate crime, and how violence, grief and loss are the sad harbingers of profound and positive change. Premiering at this year’s Unison festival in Calgary, Artio presents “Lacrimosa” to the public, on Saturday May 26th, at 2:30 PM and 7:30 PM in the Mount Royal University Nickel Theatre. This year’s creative choral theatre work will also feature guest artists Mark Ikeda (choreographer), Alen Chaudhry (dancer), Meghann Michalsky (dancer), and Duo Polaris (cello & piano).
