News Release For Immediate Release: November 22, 2017 “Challenge to Change” A Social Innovation Lab and Dinner on Family Violence. Family violence is a pervasive and persistent experience in Canada today. Manitoba continues to have the second highest rate of police-reported family violence among the provinces (Statistics Canada, 2015), and the number of people it affects continues to grow. Help us change this picture by joining us on November 29th at the Fairmont Hotel. This second annual event is hosted by Willow Place, Manitoba’s largest shelter for women and their children who are experiencing family violence. “Challenge to Change” is an invitation to public sector and political leaders, community service providers, our business community, service organizations, men and women with lived experience and citizens who care to come together to build on existing services and initiatives and identify strategies for mobilizing the energy and support necessary to end violence in Manitoba. Hear about the three year “Challenge to Change” project, initiated by Willow Place, supported by Status of Women Canada and lead by a community/public sector Steering Committee. The goal of the project is to modernize the systems that support those experiencing family violence and to deepen the public’s understanding of this complex issue. Participants will learn more about this ground breaking project and hear from people who have experienced family violence, used violence within the family or witnessed violence as a child. Please join us for dinner and then take part in an interactive “social innovation lab” that will enable participants to choose their conversation and identify the barriers, opportunities and solutions that will put an end to family violence. The ideas that are generated during the “social innovation” lab will be incorporated into the “Challenge for Change” project. The Honorable Rochelle Squires, Minister of Sustainable Development and Manitoba Status of Women will bring opening remarks. Doors open at 4:00 and the program begins at 5:00 PM. Tickets are $35.00 and may be purchased on the Willow Place website at willowplaceshelter.ca or https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/challenge-to-change-tickets-39300332352?aff=affiliate1
