A five-time Maple Blues Award nominee, Edmonton-born singer/songwriter Samantha Martin plays what she calls “roots ‘n’ roll.” Martin anchors her rich, raspy vocals into a soulful combination of gospel and delta blues. Her voice is reminiscent of strong female vocalists such as Bonnie Tyler, Lucinda Williams, and Etta James, with Delta Sugar adding precision and power on backup. The group’s debut album, Send the Nightingale, captures the energy of undeniable talents on the rise — as evident from their performance at the 2016 Edmonton Folk Music Festival.
