Both Festival City Winds Intermediate Bands, under the direction of Artistic Director Wendy J. Grasdahl, play some Ragtime & Riffs on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 7:30PM in the Robert Tegler Centre, Concordia University of Edmonton (7128 Ada Boulevard – 73 St. south of 112 Ave.). The bands are also pleased to welcome the Stephen Stone Percussion Trio as their special guests for the evening. From ragtime and folksongs to slightly more modern rock riffs, there is sure to be something to transport the audience back to an earlier time. The Intermediate Two Band will explore the swing music of a Chicago gangster’s private night club (David Weirich’s Diamond Joe’s Riviera Club), folksongs, Debussy’s Golliwogg’s Cakewalk, the theme from the movie The Great Escape, and a fast-paced musical ride in William Owens’ Cruisin’. The Intermediate One Band will explore Scott Joplin’s music from the movie The Sting, Brian Balmages’ That Old Hound Dog Rag (inspired by his two lively and zany dogs, Toby and Angel), and an arrangement of The Beatles’ classic song When I’m Sixty-Four. The Stephen Stone Percussion Trio will dazzle the audience with three people playing the marimba at the same time, and many other awe-inspiring performances. Tickets for Ragtime & Riffs are $12 for Adults and $5 for Children (12 & Under), and can be purchased at the door.
