The year 2026 marks a significant milestone—100 years since the establishment of national observances of Black history. This theme encourages reflection on the meaning and impact of commemorating Black history and life, and how these observances have shaped the status and visibility of Black peoples in the modern world. It is a time to honor the historical contributions, resilience, and excellence of Black individuals and communities whose legacies continue to influence and enrich society. Here in Winnipeg, we proudly celebrate our 45th anniversary of honoring Black History Month. This remarkable achievement stands as a testament to the vision of our founders and the enduring dedication of those who continue to ensure that Black history remains relevant, vibrant, and celebrated within our community.
