The Black Block Party is a full day packed with numerous activities including musical performances, spoken word and poetry, comedy and many more. There will be 20-plus vendors showcasing their products, including cultural foods, handmade jewelry, clothing, and other artisanal products.
The Black Block Party (BBP) is a free annual community event launched in 2022. The event features Black artists, creatives, and vendors, creating a platform for expression and visibility.
The purpose of this event is to cultivate a sense of belonging for the Black community, increase social connections, build social capital, and counter the dominant narrative that there are no Black folks in Vancouver. Our mission is to create a gathering space for Black individuals where culture, talents and uniqueness are celebrated to foster community, friendships, and collaboration.
In 2023 we welcomed over 4,500 people of different backgrounds and all genders. Our organization is mindful of creating an inclusive space for everyone, but we specifically ensure that the event is accessible to folks with different/disabilities, engaging newcomers to Vancouver, specifically Black international students and other socially excluded groups.
