Peacekeepers Day is held every year at Peacekeepers Park & Buffalo Park in Garrison Green to remember the Peacekeepers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We remember not only the Peacekeepers but also their families. This is the 50th anniversary of the Buffalo aircraft being shot down over Syria (9 August 1974) and the reason why the government of Canada made August 9 “Peacekeepers Day”. This incident marks the largest loss of lives in any one day.
