Discover Montreal’s Celtic choir: Musique à bouche/Mouth Music Come to the Cèilidh! Saturday, February 17, 2024 7:30 pm Unitarian Church, 5035 de Maisonneuve West $20.00 On February 17th the public is invited to a cèilidh or kitchen-party style concert to hear Mouth Music’s rich repertoire of traditional Scottish, Welsh, Manx and Irish songs. Mouth Music, born in 2017, embraces the exciting song traditions of the Celtic world with unique choral arrangements of work songs, love songs, Irish lilting and Scottish puirt à beul. Thrilled to be performing again after the hiatus that has affected so many ensembles, the choir will be tipping its tam to Saint Valentine. Linda Morrison, Canada’s beloved singer/songwriter and choir director, was travelling on a bus in Scotland when she heard a choir singing in Scottish Gaelic. She was smitten with the songs, some of which she had heard as a child from her grandparents. She studied the language and began holding informal Gaelic language and music workshops back home in Montreal. People were so enthusiastic that they asked her to start a Celtic choir. Morrison was awarded the Quebec Thistle Council prize for Scottish music, has won a gold medal at the North Carolina Mòd festival and BBC Scotland has just featured Mouth Music and Linda in Immigration Tracks, a new TV series. Thig crioch air an saoghal, ach mairidh gaol is ceòl The world will pass away, but love and music last forever – Scottish Gaelic proverb -30- For interviews with Linda Morrison, Director, Musique à bouche/Mouth Music please contact: Name Linda Morrison Phone number 514-279-0434 Email linda@lindamorrison.com
