O Canada (I’m sorry)Diana Thorneycroft is a Winnipeg artist who has exhibited all across Canada, the United States and Europe as well as in Moscow, Tokyo and Sydney. ‘O Canada (I’m sorry)’ is an exhibition with selections from two bodies of Thorneycroft’s work: ‘Group of Seven Awkward Moments’ and ‘A Peoples History’. The work in this exhibition investigates the relationship between the Canadian landscape and national identity and explores examples of Canadian society that exemplify the word "awkward". 109th Edmonton Kiwanis Music FestivalThis year marks the 109th Annual Edmonton Kiwanis Music Festival – Canada’s first competitive music festival. Over 2,500 single and group entrants entered in over 1,000 classes will perform and compete from April 10 to April 28, 2017 at MacEwan University’s Alberta College Campus (10050 MacDonald Drive), McDougall United Church (10025 101 Street), and the Old Strathcona Performing Arts Centre (8426 Gateway Boulevard). Choirs, bands, singers, pianists, guitarists, harpists, speech students, musical theatre performers, string players, woodwind players, and brass players will be showcasing, in a variety of classes, what they have learned this year. Some will be recommended to represent Edmonton at the Provincial Music Festival, and some will win Scholarships, but all will share their passion in their chosen discipline. The Aboriginal Arts portion of the festival took place on February 14 and 15, 2017 at Ben Calf Robe School and featured performances in Aboriginal dance, Pow Wow drumming, Métis jigging, and Métis fiddling. All events during the Festival are FREE to the public. The Festival kicks off with a Gala on Sunday, April 9 at 2:30PM at McDougall United Church (10025 101 Street) featuring performers of the various disciplines in the Festival.
