Edmonton's faith community is working together to impact Habitat through our Interfaith Works Project! Edmonton's Capital Region's Interfaith Housing Initiative has a goal of providing at least 500 volunteers and 45 lunches for our sites! If you are part of a faith community, we invite you to join in this special project and help achieve the goal. Bring out a group or come as individuals representing your faith group and help us on our construction sites and in our ReStores! For more information about this initiative, please contact Megan.

Diana Thorneycroft is a Winnipeg artist who has exhibited all across Canada, the United States and Europe as well as in Moscow, Tokyo and Sydney. ‘O Canada (I’m sorry)’ is an exhibition with selections from two bodies of Thorneycroft’s work: ‘Group of Seven Awkward Moments’ and ‘A Peoples History’. The work in this exhibition investigates the relationship between the Canadian landscape and national identity and explores examples of Canadian society that exemplify the word "awkward". In the words of Thorneycroft, "Canadian history is full of awkward moments and that is more of a reality than this heroic landscape that the Group of Seven portrayed”.

Opening Saturday April 8, 2017 is Andrea Kastner’s latest exhibition “Shadow Cities.” Kastner’s work focuses on the overlooked corners of urban spaces and the sacred nature of rejected things.

This year marks the 109th Annual Edmonton Kiwanis Music Festival – Canada’s first competitive music festival. Over 2,500 single and group entrants entered in over 1,000 classes will perform and compete from April 10 to April 28, 2017 at MacEwan University’s Alberta College Campus (10050 MacDonald Drive), McDougall United Church (10025 101 Street), and the Old Strathcona Performing Arts Centre (8426 Gateway Boulevard). Choirs, bands, singers, pianists, guitarists, harpists, speech students, musical theatre performers, string players, woodwind players, and brass players will be showcasing, in a variety of classes, what they have learned this year. Some will be recommended to represent Edmonton at the Provincial Music Festival, and some will win Scholarships, but all will share their passion in their chosen discipline. The Aboriginal Arts portion of the festival took place on February 14 and 15, 2017 at Ben Calf Robe School and featured performances in Aboriginal dance, Pow Wow drumming, Métis jigging, and Métis fiddling. All events during the Festival are FREE to the public. The Festival kicks off with a Gala on Sunday, April 9 at 2:30PM at McDougall United Church (10025 101 Street) featuring performers of the various disciplines in the Festival. The Gala will be emceed by the Edmonton Journal’s Paula Simons. There are several classes in which scholarships will be awarded including some very Special Scholarships.

Fleurs de Villes, Canada’s premiere Floral Mannequin Series, arrives in Edmonton from April 19-23, 2017 at Southgate Centre, the third stop on the event’s inaugural cross-Canada tour. The unique, five-day exhibition is the first of its kind to combine fashion and flowers in Canada, blending fashion design and fresh florals with bespoke floral-dressed mannequins and a pop-up fresh flower market. Over a dozen top local Edmonton florists, including Bunches Flowers, Flowers by Merle and Cory Christopher, will be paired with leading brands to design stunning displays and bring them to life with flowers. Each floral-dressed mannequin is clothed in a one-of-a-kind design made up of hundreds of fresh blooms.

The clarinet students from the University of Alberta will be performing their fourth annual clarinet studio showcase. This group, under the study of Don Ross and Julianne Scott, contains members from the Ceremonial Guard, Edmonton Youth Orchestra, and various university music ensembles. The recital features a variety of clarinet pieces by Schmitt, Weber, Lowry, and many more. Come see Adriana Jankovic, Claire Neilson, Elizabeth Smith, Linnea Signore, Nadya Ajani, Meijun Chen, Bailey Hansen, Kassandra Tchir, Marina Powers and Jacob Eisenstat perform an evening of diverse clarinet music. Kids 'n' Us is an informal full day conference intended to provide practical information and support for children, teenagers, parents, and caregivers living and working with type 1 diabetes (formerly known as juvenile diabetes). This conference is where everyone understands your lifestyle and concerns. It is an opportunity to update your knowledge about T1 diabetes, learn new coping techniques, and network with other families living with the condition.
