Z Gallery Arts presents Finnish artist Henni Alftan’s first North American solo exhibition, Shadows in the Mirror, April 6 – May 8, 2017. This exclusive, oil-on-canvas collection offers an alluring, poetic lexicon of the everyday. Alftan’s exquisite, figurative paintings of real life scenes and objects incite the viewer to take a deeper look at the seemingly mundane to find something rich, and nuanced. Be among the first to see this brand new series from Alftan whose immense body of works have been displayed across Europe in collections at Finland’s Amos Anderson Art Museum, Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art, and The Helsinki Art Museum, among others.

Carolyn’s inspiration is taken from the incredible beauty of the Okanagan Valley. She especially loves to paint trees, vineyards and flowers. Working with acrylics & watercolour, she has added encaustic medium into her creations. Encaustic is the ancient art of painting with molten beeswax & pigments. It allows for more spontaneity & wonderful surprises as the melted wax moves around the painting. The Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society (VAHMS) and the Vancouver Lipont Art Centre are pleased to present Generation One Art Exhibition during the 21st annual explorASIAN festival, which promotes national Asian Heritage Month in May. The Generation One Art Exhibition was created in 2009 as a signature program of the VAHMS festival to feature both established and emerging local artists, who are first-generation Asian Canadians by immigration or birth, and to provide a forum for exploring new expressions of Canadian identity. This year, the exhibition will focus on issues of social integration facing Asian Canadians of various generations.

It has been said that mathematics is the poetry of science. Some of the fundamental values of poetry parallel those of mathematics, and mathematical research is, in many ways, an art. Professor Cédric Villani will discuss the interface between mathematics and art, showing how both these disciplines seek to illuminate hidden beauty in the world. Cédric Villani is the Director of the Institut Henri Poincaré, France’s prime and oldest international institute for research in mathematical sciences. He has received many mathematical awards, including the Fields Medal in 2010, often considered the most prestigious in mathematics.

The Fraser Valley Watermedia Society is excited to have their Annual Spring 2017 Art Show from Wednesday, May 3, 2017 until Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the Clearbrook Library, 32320 George Ferguson Way, Abbotsford, BC. The show will feature a wide range of new watermedia paintings by local artists. The show will be open to the public during library hours with the Opening of the Show at 5:00 pm Wednesday, May 3, 2017.
