rEvolver Theatre FestivalNow in its fifth year, the rEvolver Theatre Festival is Vancouver’s late spring celebration of Canadian contemporary performance work by emerging and early mid career artists. This year’s slate of adventurous, high energy and sophisticated new works includes productions by Luciterra Dance Company, Ode. Movements Society, rice & beans theatre, Skinny Walrus Project, and Wild Women Theatre—all locally based. Highlights also include The Princess Show, a co-production by Heist and Theatre Outré from Halifax, which won Best in Fest award at the 2016 Atlantic Fringe Festival. Toronto-based Haley McGee, brings her one-woman show, I’m Doing This for You. Vancouver Mini Maker FaireMaker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly festival of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. Part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. All of these “makers” come to Maker Faire to show what they have made and to share what they have learned. The Vancouver Mini Maker Faire brings together over 150 Makers, performers, workshop leaders, and speakers from across a wide range of disciplines for two days of exhibiting projects, building community, and sharing knowledge and inspiration. Sooke River Bluegrass FestivalThe Sooke River Bluegrass Festival celebrates its 15th year and Canada’s 150th birthday with all Canadian-lineup that features the best in national and regional bluegrass bands.
