Radio News Anchor at 680 CJOB

Matthew Merkel is a part-time radio news anchor at 680 CJOB. Before joining the team at CJOB, Matthew worked at the University of Manitoba’s student newspaper “The Manitoban” for 3 years. Matthew has been recognized for several awards and scholarships including the Onyx Initiative for Black Students in 2021, the CAJ Mentorship Program in the summer of 2022, and the Shared Bylines Mentorship and Scholarship Program for BIPOC Journalists in the fall of 2022.  Matthew is also a photographer; and in his spare time enjoys working out, listening to hip-hop and R&B music, cooking, and spending quality time with friends and family.
