Canada’s athletes in Sochi: Meet snowboarder Maëlle Ricker

  • 2010 Olympic Champion.
  • 2013 FIS World Cup Champion.

Interesting Fact: Reached the Snowboard Cross finals in Turin 2006, suffering a crash that knocked her unconscious and resulted in a 4th-place finish. She rebounded with gold in Vancouver 2010. A recent wrist injury that required surgery has put her hopes of defending her Olympic title in jeopardy but if the recovery goes well she hopes to be in Sochi.

Chances: The reigning Olympic champion is a favourite yet again to reach the top of the podium. Despite being 35 Ricker has not slowed down, capturing the 2013 FIS World Cup championship. She is a medal favourite on a Canadian snowboard team stacked with talent.
