SASKATOON – Bail has been granted to a former University of Saskatchewan student charged with stealing a vial of sulphuric acid.

Mohamadmahdi Kowsari, 25, spent more than a month in police custody after being charged with theft under $5,000.

Details from his bail hearing are banned from publication.

In October, the university’s chemical engineering lab was temporarily evacuated after officials received a threat about two potentially dangerous chemicals being mixed.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Kowsari will be back in court on Dec. 12.

He’s also suspended from his classes and banned from being on the university campus.
