TORONTO – A new online campaign hoping to show the world that Canada’s largest city has more to offer than a scandal surrounding its mayor has gone viral.

The ‘More than Ford’ was created by two Toronto art directors after recent headlines about Rob Ford’ admission to smoking crack cocaine went global.

Rob Ford’s drug scandal has garnered media headlines worldwide and has been the butt of jokes for late-night comedians like David Letterman, Jay Leno and Stephen Colbert.

The one minute video clip features scenes from Toronto’s fashion week, Kensington Market, Nuit Blanche, Gay Pride and the city’s professional sports teams, including the Maple Leafs, the Raptors, the Argonauts and Toronto Blue Jays.

“Our great city has been overshadowed by our disaster of a mayor,” according to the campaign’s website. “If you love Toronto, tell the internet why.”

Using the hashtag #MorethanFord, people are being encouraged on Twitter to share why they love the city.

Some critics, however, do not agree with the campaign’s message:

The video, set to the song “Live In This City” by Canadian band Dragonette, had just under 7,000 views on YouTube as of Thursday.
