Woman dies in Brentwood House Fire

An elderly woman was rushed to hospital in critical life-threatening condition Friday after a house fire in the northwest Calgary community of Brentwood.

Firefighters were called to the home on Benton Drive N.W. around 4:30pm.  When they arrived they found the woman inside.

They pulled her from the home and EMS rushed her to Foothills hospital, where she died of her injuries.

No one else was in the home at the time of the fire.

There were three cats inside, all of them died in the fire.

It’s believed the fire started in the kitchen.

Neighbours say she had lived alone with her cats in that home for the past 20 years. “She was a nice lady. She would come out and say hello and things like that. Just kind of cared for neighbours. A good relationship with everyone on the street”.

Investigators have the home sealed off as they work to determine an official cause of the fire.
