Busy Halloween night for emergency crews

Vancouver fire and rescue crews were kept busy on Halloween night responding to 17 emergencies, 10 of which were directly related to firework use.

The firework damage, which included fires in a dumpster, multiple garbage cans, hedges, a Canada Post mailbox and pallets set on fire in a school field, is estimated at $32,000.

Firefighters also responded to an emergency just after midnight at Main and Cordova involving a female, who had suffered a serious injury to her eye after being hit by a bottle rocket. The victim was taken to hospital and the status of her injury is unknown.

The additional but non-related fireworks incidents ranged from a fire on a deck in the 300 block of S.E. Marine drive to an electrical fire in an apartment building, which contained a marijuana grow-operation, on the 1800 block of West Pender.
