TORONTO — Toronto Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia is engaged to Kimberly Perry, a member of The Band Perry.
The engagement was confirmed Tuesday by the 30-year-old singer’s publicist.
Arencibia, 27, popped the question Monday night after paying a surprise visit to her parent’s house in Greeneville, Tennessee with the 3.3-karat emerald cut diamond ring the couple had designed in Chicago.
The two met in early 2012 at a festival in Florida and started dating a few months later.
Arencibia, a native of Florida, lives in Nashville during the off-season. He has been with the Jays for four seasons.
Perry, whose hits with her brothers Neil and Reid include “If I Die Young,” told The Tennessean Arencibia is “a really gentle soul.”
The Band Perry kicks off a world tour on Thursday in New Mexico. They play Caesars Windsor in Ontario on Oct. 20.
An 11-city Canadian tour starts Jan. 9, 2014 in Penticton, B.C. and ends Jan. 24 in Kingston, Ont.
Arencibia and Perry plan to tie the knot next summer.
