A Toronto man who went into the woods near Algonquin Provincial Park on what police called a "survival excursion” has been found dead.
Richard Code, 41, left his Scarborough neighbourhood February 25 on a wilderness trek to Huntsville, Ontario. He was supposed to come back Sunday.
When Code failed to return as planned, Ontario Provincial Police went looking for him. On Tuesday, officers found out he had been picked up while hitchhiking south of Barrie, Ontario.
After an air search on Wednesday, police found Code’s body at around 1:30 p.m. in a rural area at the north of Horn Lake, north of Huntsville.
Police do not suspect foul play. They said that while there are cabins and cottages near the area, Code was found in an isolated spot.
OPP Staff Sgt. Stacey Whaley said Code did not have a camp set up when police found him.
"There are some roads that are plowed this time of year. But he was in a rural area, off the beaten track. Where he was found, we could only access by helicopter,” said Whaley.
A post-mortem was scheduled for Thursday evening.
