After four arrests, many questions surround deluxe home in Beaconsfield

BEACONSFIELD – Montreal Police have arrested four people in connection with what a spokesperson termed “aggression and intimidation” surrounding a home on Lakeshore Road in Beaconsfield that was reportedly owned by an SQ officer.

“We’re talking about… the intimidation of an elected official,” said SPVM spokesperson Ian Lafrenière. Local newspapers are reporting that Beaconsfield’s director of urban planning, Denis Chabot, was a target of the violence, which occurred in October on a golf course in Vaudreuil-Dorion. Chabot opposed granting permission to renovate the residence – which has no visible numerical address and lies one door east from northeast corner of Valois. The Beaconsfield City Council blocked – and then approved – home improvements.

Originally bought for $500,000, once the house was renovated it sold recently for $1.3 million.

Police couldn’t confirm the identities of the four persons arrested late Tuesday night. One is reportedly SQ officer Peter de Castris, who owned the house.

The city of Beaconsfield declined comment on the matter, issuing a statement saying that the arrests follow “incidents with city staff and city staff” without elaborating. Several neighbours of the home also declined to comment to Global News, as did the current occupants of the house.

The four suspects are scheduled to make an initial court appearance October 2.
