Son of Saskatoon lawyer charged with second-degree murder

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – RCMP have charged the son of a Saskatoon lawyer with second-degree murder after his father was found dead at Emma Lake, Saskatchewan on Sunday.

Around 5:20 p.m., RCMP were called to Marine Drive in the community of Emma Lake.

The victim has been identified as 64-year-old Ian Buckwold. An autopsy has been scheduled for today.

“Ian was passionate. Ian was hard on issues and soft on people and he was someone who always came forward when you needed him there,” said Arla Gustafson, Royal University Hospital Foundation CEO.

Ian and his wife, Mary Ellen, were advocates of mental health in Saskatoon.

“They were very strong in their conviction that meant illness is a medical disease – that the stigma of mental illness and mental health should not be such that people don’t get help,”
