WINNIPEG — An Ottawa man is biking across Canada in the hopes of sparking a greater discussion about organ and tissue donation.
This weekend, he pedalled through Winnipeg.
Cayse Ruiter hopped on his bike three weeks ago in Tofino, B.C., with a goal of biking across the country to encourage Canadians and their families to become donors.
Ruiter set a goal for himself: To bike to St. John’s, N.L., by the end of August.
Currently there are about 4,000 Canadians awaiting organ donations.
A friend’s death got Ruiter on his bike and making a difference.
Ruiter is heading to Kenora, Ont., on Monday morning.
