British Columbians planning to travel south of the border on the I-5 will no longer have to detour around the Skagit River Bridge that collapsed last month.

The Washington State Department of Transportation said the temporary bridge opened this morning.

The old bridge gave way on May 23, and three people were sent plunging into the icy waters of the river.

No one was seriously hurt.

Last week, officials pushed the first of two temporary sections across the gap between the north and south sides of the river.
