Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield to perform in Ottawa for Canada Day

TORONTO – Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield will be rocking out in our nation’s capital as part of Canada Day festivities.

Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages James Moore made the announcement Wednesday.

Hadfield will perform I.S.S. (Is Somebody Singing), a song that he co-wrote with Barenaked Ladies frontman Ed Robertson, on July 1st on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

Hadfield, Russian cosmonaut Roman Romanenko and NASA astronaut Tom Marshburn returned to Earth in May after arriving at the International Space Station (ISS) in December.

Hadfield was the first Canadian astronaut to take command of the ISS. His colourful and detailed images—as well as his interaction with the world through live chats and video—have received international attention and helped him gain over 905,000 Twitter followers.

Shortly after Moore’s announcemnt, Hadfield posted the following message on his official Twitter account:

Thousands of Canadians converge on the Hill annually to mark the country’s birthday.  Other guests in this year’s festivities include Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen and indie rock band Metric.
