Mayor apologizes for calling Toronto media ‘maggots’

TORONTO – Toronto Mayor Rob Ford apologized to a throng of media outside of his office Monday for calling them “maggots” on his radio show Sunday.

“I want to apologize to each and every one of you for the derogatory comment I made in respect to the media on my radio show,” Ford said. “I sincerely apologize to each and every one of you, I understand you have a job to do.”

Ford made the apology outside of his office at city hall on Monday afternoon while announcing the resignation of two staffers before leaving for an afternoon meeting

He said he had a very stressful week but that it doesn’t justify his comments.

Ford called Toronto’s media a “bunch of maggots” during his radio show on Newstalk 1010 Sunday.

Along with his brother Doug Ford, the mayor spent much of his radio show criticizing the Toronto media.

Councillor Doug Ford warned Toronto’s media that he was “coming after them” and the mayor lamented that the media are “never happy.”

“The gloves are off,” Doug Ford said. “The point is, they’re coming after us, I’m coming after them. This is new politics folks.”
