MONTREAL – Thirty-four Montreal museums, including the brand new Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium, will offer free admission on May 26 for the city’s annual Museums Day.

The $48-million planetarium, with two shiny silver-coloured cones housing separate theatres, opened last month in the Space for Life natural sciences complex in east-end Montreal. General admission for adults normally costs up to $18.75.

Also new for this year’s Museums Day is the Museum of Costume and Textiles of Quebec, which recently moved from the South Shore suburb of St-Lambert to the Bonsecours Market in Old Montreal. It will be presenting the temporary exhibition “Tapis rouge: la mode au musee,” featuring the creations of several Montreal designers.

Other participating facilities include the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the McCord Museum, the Canadian Centre for Architecture, the Montreal Science Centre and the Pointe-a-Calliere Museum.
