The Winnipeg Blue Bombers insist their trouble plagued new stadium will face no more delays.
“For Paul McCartney and his people to book a concert at Investors Group Field shows they are just rumors and we’ll open grand style on May 26th,” Bombers President and CEO Garth Buchko told reporters Monday during the McCartney concert announcement.
The opening of the new stadium at the University of Manitoba is almost a full year behind schedule. Construction crews are still working on the interior of the 33,500 seat facility. Bomber brass restricted access to the stadium and refused to comment on reports that concession areas won’t be ready for the long-awaited spring time opening.
A huge, interfaith church service is planned for the Stadium May 26th to serve as a sort of dress-rehearsal for the facility.
Pop star Taylor Swift has a concert set for Investors Group Field June 22nd.
The Bombers are also expected Tuesday to report an $800,000 loss due to extra expenses from the delay opening the new stadium and keeping the old one open an extra year.
