It may be spring in Canada, but it appears old man winter won’t be loosening his grip on our province just yet.
A low pressure system has developed over south and central Alberta and is expected to dump a significant amount of snow overnight and into Sunday.
Environment Canada predicts 10 to 25 centimetres of snow will fall in the southern part of the province and in parts of central Alberta. However, some areas could see 30 centimetres of snow or more.

The City of Calgary says crews are prepared and aren’t taking any chances.
“Everything we have available will be out there,” says Kelly Dyer, a spokesperson for the city’s transportation department. ” We have notified crews who are available to respond 24-7. We will be monitoring the snowfall and the conditions throughout the night. We will be putting material down and based on if this is a spring snowstorm, based on if the snow stays, we will have plows and sanders in place.”
In Whitecourt, 29 centimetres has already been recorded since Saturday morning.
A snowfall warning has been dropped for Banff National Park.
The snow is expected to last until Sunday afternoon in central Alberta and Sunday evening in southern Alberta.
