HALIFAX — Energy-efficient light bulbs, washing machines and even clotheslines are cheaper this month, thanks to Efficiency Nova Scotia.

The provincial corporation, known primarily for its energy audits and in-home recommendations for saving electricity, will now offer instant rebates at the cash register.

When consumers buy certain energy-efficient products at specific retailers across the province, $3-$100 dollars will be cut from the price.

“It’s really what we’re all about,” said Lauren McNutt, from Efficiency NS. “Helping home owners and businesses reduce their energy consumption and save on their monthly energy bills.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

She says swapping out old electronics and utilities can save homeowners hundreds of dollars each year on energy costs.

This instant rebate helps entice people to make those investments.

“From your small CFL [compact fluorescent lightbulb], right up to your large appliances to the insulation in your home,” McNutt said. “All of this is going to make a big difference in your home.”

The program lasts until May 31, 2013. A full list of rebate-eligible items can be found on the Efficiency NS website.
