The Edmonton Police Service is warning the public about a convicted sexual and violent offender who will be living in the community.

Police say they have “reasonable grounds to believe” that Ernest Bruno, 59, “will commit another sexual or violent offence against a person, including children, while in the community.”

The EPS has sought a recognizance order on Bruno and say he will be closely monitored by the behavioural assessment unit.

He also must abide by a series of court-ordered conditions, including:

  • Obey curfew of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily
  • Abstain from alcohol and drugs, including marijuana
  • Avoid any premise whose primary source of income is derived from the sale or consumption of alcohol
  • Stay within the City of Edmonton unless supervisor approves
  • Must not be in, near or around places where children under the age of 18 are likely to congregate unless accompanied by his supervisor
  • Must not be in the presence of any children under 18 unless accompanied by a responsible adult approved by his supervisor
  • Must not be in possession of weapons of any kind, including knives

“The Edmonton Police Service is issuing this information and warning after careful deliberation of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform the members of the community,” police explained in a news release Monday.
