Charges laid in early morning crash at Adelaide and Cheapside

One man is facing several charges in connection to an early morning collision Thursday that temporarily closed the intersection of Adelaide and Cheapside streets, police said.

According to investigators, officers observed a stolen vehicle in the area of Taylor Street and Cheapside Street, about a block east of the crash scene, and pursued the vehicle.

The vehicle collided with a police cruiser, fled, and then crashed at the Adelaide intersection, police said.

Police pursued the vehicle’s adult male driver on foot for a brief period before apprehending him, police said.

The unidentified man faces charges including assault a peace officer, assault a peace officer with a weapon, possession of property obtained by crime, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resist arrest, and drive while suspended.

A damage amount is not known, but police said no injuries were reported to anyone involved.

Pieces of child car seats could be seen at the crash site, along with pieces of shrubbery and remnants of the sign and pole.

The crash closed the intersection for about three hours.
