WINNIPEG – Winnipeg Jets Forward Mark Scheifele hosted his annual charity hockey camp this weekend at MTS Iceplex.
The 2-day camp for boys and girls between 5 and 12-years-old opened on Saturday.
Proceeds from the camp will go to KidSport Winnipeg, who will then use the money to pay registration fees for children whose families don’t have the financial resources to put them into organized sports.
“Giving back to the community is so important because you spend so much time here, fans are screaming and yelling and spending their money to watch you play and I think you have to give back to the people that are less fortunate that are in need,” said Scheifele.
Scheifele said the camp has been growing since it began two years ago and he hopes it continues to get bigger and raise more money.
