What is the definition of a diehard sports fan?

For me, it’s someone who will do just about anything, and everything, to support their favourite team.

Donning face paint, wearing lucky socks, growing a playoff beard, upholding superstitions… it’s all part and parcel to being an ultimate sports fanatic.

The latest example is Jason Maslakow, aka, Dart Guy.

The 37-year-old Waterloo resident has become an Internet sensation after television cameras caught a glimpse of him in the crowd at Washington’s Verizon Center on Saturday night.

And how could you miss him?

Aside from his imposing size, Dart Guy comes equipped with a blue Auston Matthews Maple Leafs sweater, blue and white face paint, an image of the Stanley Cup shaved into the top of his head and “Go Leafs Go” shaved into the back of his head and dyed blue.

Why Dart Guy?

Because Maslakow had an unlit dart, or cigarette, hanging off his bottom lip when he was caught on camera while stressing over Toronto’s fortunes in Game 2.

The Leafs even gave Dart Guy a ticket to Monday night’s Game 3 as a reward for his fantastic fandom.

I may not be in Dart Guy’s class, but after having to throw out all the food in my suddenly broken refrigerator… I opted to watch Game 3 instead of going out to buy a new fridge.

Hey, nobody said diehard fans are smart.
