2 companies fined over $111K for Saskatchewan workplace safety violations

Two companies have been fined after pleading guilty to Saskatchewan workplace safety violations in separate cases.

In the first case, a worker was seriously injured on Feb. 12, 2015 near Moosomin when steel rods being transferred from one trailer to another fell on the worker.

Apex Distribution Inc. pleaded guilty on Dec. 12 in Melville provincial court for failing to ensure only trained operators use powered mobile equipment.

The company was fined a total of $110,005.

In the second case, a worker was injured on July 20, 2015 in a nail gun incident near Fishing Lake that required hospitalization.

SJLL Construction Ltd. pleaded guilty on Dec. 12 in Melville provincial court for failing to give notice as soon as is reasonably possible of an accident where a worker will be admitted to hospital as an in-patient for longer than 72 hours.

The company was fined $1,680.
