Winnipegers frustrated with mail mix-ups and delays

It’s been a record breaking year for Canada Post when it comes to holiday deliveries, but with that, comes a lot of mistakes and delays according to some Winnipegers.

Alysa Friesen opened her mail this week to two new packages, both didn’t belong to her.

“It’s not what you would expect to find in your own mailbox,” said Friesen.

One belonged to the neighbour a block away, the other, lived on a completely different street.

Friesen said the packages looked urgent, so decided to pack up her two kids on her day off, and deliver the mail personally.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“If they’re important, they need to get them right away. They can’t wait.”

It’s a problem the Elmwood neighbourhood is familiar with.

A few blocks away, Samantha Bennison receives her neighbours mail regularly.

She just ordered her entire Christmas list online, and worries someone else could end up with it.

“It could just be in someone’s recycling bin, and I would have no idea,” said Bennison

Canada post expects the busiest postal day of the year, this week, on December 12.

They anticipate 3,500 parcels will be delivered each minute, and already, there are delays in the city.

In St. James, Crystal Davis expected her important business packages to arrive on Monday morning. She didn’t receive them until Friday.

“It was extremely frustrating not to have those parcels delivered on time. It didn’t only affect me, it affected the people those parcels were for,” said Davis.

Canada Post said they haven’t received many complaints regarding mix-ups or delays for this time of year.

However, they note staff are delivering over a million packages a day country-wide over the holidays.

Something Friesen didn’t think about. But with Christmas present on the way, she’s starting to worry.

“We’ve ordered quite a few Christmas presents online, so it’s frustrating to not know for sure if we’re going to receive them,” said Friesen.
