Some residents in Montreal North were rudely awakened Saturday after a water main burst, causing some flooding in the neighbourhood.
The Montreal fire department was alerted at 3:30 a.m. and arrived at the scene on Georges-Pichet Avenue, between Amos and Bayonne streets, shortly thereafter.
City spokesperson, Gonzalo Nunez, said it was a break in an eight-inch conduit that caused the leak and subsequent flooding.
According to Nunez, only one residential unit was damaged after water seeped into the basement.
City crews were on site to fix the water main break at 6:15 a.m.
The water supply was cut off to 61 properties, as workers repaired the conduit.
While the water supply was expected to be back by 12:30 p.m., officials have issued a boil water advisory for affected residents.
Nunez said those affected have already been warned to boil their tap water for one minute before consuming it.
The advisory will remain in place until at least Tuesday, pending lab results of water samples collected in the sector.
