At Saskatoon’s Festival of Trees each tree glistens and sparkles, every decoration planned and placed with care.
“Our team of decorators really do work year round on these trees,” festival board member Heather Nakaska said.
“They’re already planning with next year’s top secret theme. They may spend up to eight hours in this building putting their tree together, but many more hours before that have gone into the planning.”

There are 49 trees in total, which are decorated by hundreds of volunteers at their own cost, each one vying to outshine the other.
“We have a pretty good estimate of about 100 lights per foot, so if you have a seven-foot tree there’s likely going to be 700 lights. They’re intricately placed and wired on,” Nakaska said.
This year’s theme is ‘nature’s magical Christmas’.
“We have gorgeous decorated trees that celebrates the wonders of nature with a little bit of magic thrown in,” Festival of Trees CEO Cheyenne Steffen said.

Funds raised from the festival will support the Equip for Excellence campaign at the Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation.
“We need to be involved in health care and be involved in making it the best we can. The Equip for Excellence campaign is something that will enable them to buy equipment in any department that needs it,” Steffen said.
The trees will be on display until Nov. 26.
