Marie-Anne Portelance got a shout-out Wednesday all the way from Nashville.

Former Montreal Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban shared Global News’ story on his Facebook page.

Portelance wanted her Grade 4 students to get exercise before class and thought giving them a goal would be good motivation.

Since the whole class knew Subban had been traded to Nashville, that’s the goal she chose: the class would run one kilometre a day until they “reached” Nashville.

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Elementary School teacher didn’t know what would come of it but on Wednesday she got a call from Subban’s public relations team. The player wanted an interview for his website.

“We were very excited,” Portelance said.

“The kids have just been flying since Wednesday.”
